Agreeing to work Election Day is always an act of service to the community. Agreeing to work Election Day while DOUBLING the number of expected voters at one location goes above and beyond an act of service. That is exactly what happened at Three Rivers Wesleyan Church during the 2024 General Election. A nearby location had to unexpectedly drop out the week before Election Day, and we had to quickly find a solution for the 2,400 voters left without a polling place. The decision was made to send the 6 voting machines to Three Rivers Wesleyan Church, doubling the amount to 12 machines and to combine the two location’s poll workers, creating the best poll worker team to handle the changes. When we informed the Inspector of the updated situation, she took it all in stride. Along with all of the new challenges, the Secretary of State wanted to visit an Election Day location and who do you think we selected…Pam Callahan accepted the challenge and was able to work with her staff to ensure every voter was checked in properly, as well as placed on the correct machine to vote. Each poll worker did their job accurately, so much that there were no mistakes noted or discovered during the review of Election Day numbers. Facing last minute changes head-on and with accuracy is why we are awarding the poll workers of Three Rivers Wesleyan Church with the Jeanne Nicolet Delivering Democracy Award.
